A. Irene Prince was born in
Wichita, Kansas, to Orval Allen
Swain and Ella Irene (Ryman) Swain
on January 1, 1925. She was the third
of six children and was baptized in
the Baptist church.
As a young girl, she enjoyed
swimming, roller skating, track,
canoing and was a member of the
Sharp Shooter Club. After graduating
from Wichita’s North High School
in 1943, she worked as a “Rosie the
Riveter” at the Boeing plant in Wichita. Her job was
riveting in the forward bomb bay section on the B29.
She married Donald Wilbur Prince on January 14,
1945, and soon after they moved to California. In 1975, the
family moved to Madras and opened Prince’s Automotive
where Irene worked as the receptionist and bookkeeper.
Irene was an active member in Eastern Star, Daughters
of the Nile, Five Point, Red Hat, and Book Club. She
enjoyed knitting, cross stitch, and genealogy research.
After retiring, Irene and Don traveled all 48 states in
their RV, then they cruised to Alaska and fl ew to Hawaii
to complete all 50 states.
In her later years, she enjoyed playing Mexican Train
Dominoes, working jigsaw puzzles and visiting with
family and friends.
Irene passed away peacefully on August 2, 2023,
surrounded by family.
Irene is survived by her children, Jim (Nancy), Dennis
(Mary), Orval (Linda), and Donell Quinn (Joe); six
grandchildren; fi ve great-grandchildren; and three greatgreat-
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her
parents; and fi ve siblings.
