Gary Vance Miller (July 2nd, 1939-May 9th, 2022) Gary Miller 82 passed away May 9th, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. Gary was born July 2nd, 1939, to Florin and Letha in Spokane Washington. After graduating high school, Gary enlisted in the US Navy where he would serve aboard the USS McGinty, an escort destroyer in the south pacific during the Korean conflict as a Machinist mate. After being honorably discharged in 63, he returned to Spokane where he worked briefly as a butcher and would eventually start his own business selling meat to local restaurants. In 1968 he moved to Portland Oregon in search of new opportunities. Here he met his wife Geraldine and began his career at Schuss Company, a wholesale grocery distributor that would eventually be known as SE Rykoff and later US foods. He was a delivery driver and active Shop Stuart for Teamsters Local 162, eventually becoming full time at Local 162 as a Benefits Coordinator / Business Agent. Gary became a dedicated advocate for good wages and benefits for the working class. The Teamsters was his church. He was truly a to bettering the lives of the members. He also served on multiple committees such as the Teamsters Credit Union and Keiser Permanente until his retirement in 1998. In retirement he enjoyed wood working, fishing, family vacations and loved his Sea Hawks. He was an honorable man, who was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Geraldine, brother Delbert, son Jody, daughter-in-law Lauren, his grandchildren Scott and Rachel and 4 great grandchildren. A grave side service will be held July 1 st at Willamette national cemetery at 11am. All are welcome to attend.
