Earlene Yates Moon, long time resident of Culver, Or passed away Thursday, July 27th at the age of 97. She was born February 4, 1926 to her parents Lonnie Ben Yates and Nola Jane Baird Yates in Williford, AK. There were seven children in the family, with Earlene being the only girl. She grew up in Arkansas where she went to school and graduated from Barton High School in 1944. After graduation, Earlene lived and worked in Memphis, TN where she met and married Charles S. Moon on December 20, 1947. Her parents had migrated to Oregon which Earlene and Charles decided to follow them in 1949. They had two children, a son Charlie Moon and daughter Gail Moon Dubisar who both reside in Central Oregon. Earlene worked for Central Oregon Insurance for 23 years before retiring in 1985. She enjoyed spending time with family, traveling and had a passion for taking care of her home and flower gardens. Attending sports was a lifelong activity. Her children enjoying sports as well, playing softball and volleyball. At age 90 she was featured in an article by the Bend Bulletin as "Culver's Biggest Fan."
Earlene was a longtime member of the Green Thumb Garden Club. She also volunteered her time for the Red Cross blood drives and was a faithful member of the Culver Christian Church. She lived life well to the glory of God.
She is survived by her son Charlie Moon of Redmond and daughter Gail Dubisar (Leo) of Culver, grandson Jeff Moon and granddaughter Shelley Ely (Chris). One brother, Dell Yates of Bend, Or as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles of forty seven years, brothers William, Buel, Burl, George, Tom, and Gene.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 3:00pm at Culver Christian Church. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Country Side Living - Memory Care in Redmond, Oregon or Culver Christian Church. Country Side Living - Memory Care was her "home away from home" and provided compassionate care for her.
