Bernita Fay Barker

Bernita Fay Barker, of Madras, Oregon went to be with the Lord on February 27, 2023, after a very short bout with cancer.  Bernita was born on January 20, 1933, and had just celebrated her 90th birthday. She was born in Meridian, Idaho to parents Roger and Audrey Tucker. A brother, Jerry joined the family 18 months later.  She married her high school sweetheart, Eldon Barker on June 22, 1951, the year she graduated from high school.  On November 6, 1953, Caron Sue arrived and was joined four years later by a brother, Dale Lynn born on August 28, 1957.  The family moved to Madras in 1961 to look for better employment opportunities. Almost immediately after they arrived in Madras, Bernita enrolled at Phagan's Beauty College in Bend, Oregon and got her license as a beautician. She worked in Madras at Cottage Beauty Salon for many years until her husband, Eldon retired from road construction. They then opened their own business Eldon’s Rentals and they both operated that business until they retired. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home and they especially enjoyed large family get togethers. Bernita was a remarkable seamstress and she enjoyed playing the piano. She loved attending her church, Cornerstone Baptist Church in Madras.  Bernita is survived by her daughter and son in law, Dick and Sue Dodson of Madras, Oregon; her son and daughter in law, Dale and Gail Barker of Vancouver, Washington; grandchildren Eric Runge and wife Renee of Gladstone, Oregon; Becky Burchell and husband Jon of Madras, Oregon; Nichole Boyer and her husband Michael of McMinnville, Oregon; Patrick Wilson of Vancouver, Washington and Michael Barker of Portland, Oregon.  Great grandchildren include Isaac, Chelsea and Emily Boyer of McMinnville, Oregon; Judah Trump and Rillian Runge of Gladstone, Oregon and another to arrive in April 2023 whose name is Jackson Lee Runge. She is also leaving numerous brothers and sisters in law as well as nieces and nephews.  She is pre-deceased by her husband, Eldon who died February 11, 2020, her brother, Jerry and her mother and father, Roger and Audrey Tucker. A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 10 at 11:00 am at Mt. Jefferson Memorial Cemetary in Madras, Oregon. A Memorial Service will be held in the spring.
