Barbara Gail Adkins, wife of Larry N. Adkins, died peacefully at the age of 86 in her home, surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 19, 2023.
Barbara was born January 25, 1937, in Warren, Oregon, to Gail Desmond Smith and Willette Erma Smith. Her father was killed during World War II in 1943 and she was raised by her stepfather, Russell David Holmes from the age of three years. She married her High School sweetheart Larry Neil Adkins on December 26, 1954, and they made their home in St. Helens, Oregon until Larry was hired by the Oregon State Police in January 1960 when they moved to Astoria, Oregon for his first duty station.
Larry and Barbara both received Jesus as their Savior in Astoria, in September 1962 and it was their great desire to share the Gospel and the peace they obtained by doing so. They made their home in Jefferson County when Larry was transferred to the Madras State Police outpost in 1968.
They had four children, Kathy Story of Madras, Tammy (Dan) Fox of Prineville, James Neil (Greta) Adkins, former Sheriff, of Madras, and Kimberly (Don) Parker of Rock Springs, WY.
Barbara has 12 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. She was preceded in death by husband Larry in 2018, Great Grandson Samuel Hinton in 2016, her brother, David Stephen Smith in 2007, and Granddaughter Rebecca Gail Story in 1994.
