Virginia Carlson Root, age 97, of Madras, Oregon passed away on October 7, 2019. Virginia June Brooks was born on June1, 1922 in Monrovia, California to John and Lillian Brooks. She grew up in Deer Flat, Idaho with three brothers. She graduated from Caldwell High School and completed studies at a business school in Boise, Idaho. Virginia married Art Carlson in 1941 and settled into a life of farming in Deer Flat, Idaho. They moved to Madras, Oregon in 1948 with their son, Norm when irrigation came to the area. Their two daughters, Glenda and Christy were born in Central Oregon. Virginia was involved in church activities, garden club, 4-H clubs, golf, bowling leagues, and volunteered at the Jefferson County Library. After Art passed away, she married Jack Root and continued to live in Madras. Virginia is survived by her two brothers, three children, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by them all.
