IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steven
Zachary
January 17, 1955 – December 25, 2022
Steve Zachary was born in January of 1955 to Bob and Patty (Prociw) Zachary in Eugene, Oregon. He joined Jesus and his much missed dad in Heaven on Christmas Day 2022. Steve attended school in Springfield and Grants Pass, Oregon as well as Alberta, Canada. Upon returning to the United States, his dad became pastor of MCBC in Madras and Steve attended Madras High his last two years. He worked for Anderson Farms and in 1976 married the farmer’s daughter, Kathleen Anderson. They were married for 46 years. Steve worked various jobs in his life including farming and retail but his favorite jobs were men’s clothing buyer for Hatfield’s Department Stores and swathing for Warkentin Farms in Christmas Valley. Steve and Kathleen had 4 children and 18 grandchildren which were the light of his life. He loved teasing his nieces and nephews, water-skiing, playing basketball, and most of all spending time with his wife, kids, and grandkids, especially at hunting camp and at their winter home in Thousand Palms, CA. He traveled to Canada, El Salvador, and Mexico and spent a summer working at a Christian camp in Panama with Kathleen and the kids. Most of his grandchildren remember his ear pinches, trips to Dairy Queen in Madras, and encouragement to follow Jesus. In 2015 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and in 2018 after having to retire from Madras Marine, he and Kathleen moved to Christmas Valley, Oregon. Sadly his PD progressed rapidly followed by PD dementia. In early December of 2022 he entered memory care at Country Side Living in Redmond, Oregon but was only there for 16 days before he was transferred to Partners in Care Hospice House in Bend where he passed from this life to the next. He is survived by the love of his life Kathleen, his children Shannon and Jess Warkentin of Christmas Valley, Tiffany and Jake Edwards of Bend, Heidi and Joaquin Solòrzano and Tony Zachary, all of Redmond, Oregon as well as his grandchildren Aaron, Allyna, Addison and Archer Warkentin; Paris and Craig Puckett, Aspen, Brody and Ainslee Edwards; Neto, Adeline, Kaeser, Evalie and Lizak Solòrzano; and Kyra, Ashton, Alexis, Jezrael, and Leland Zachary. He’s also survived by his mother Patty Zachary as well as siblings Kevin and Cheryl Zachary, Mark and Lisa Zachary, Kim and Darrell Glaspie, Matt and Stacie Zachary, and Joe and Zeitel Zachary as well as many much loved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Madras on January 7 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Steve’s favorite ministry GiveMeThatBook.org/contact-us or to Whilewerewaiting.org/donation.
