Obituary

Ray A. Potter age 64 passed away in Madras on March 14, 2019. Born in Lansing, Michigan on January 25, 1955, Ray was the son of Norm and Lois Potter.

Ray and his best friend and wife Cindi, married 36 years, shared a life together filled with love and adventure. Ray completed his M.B.A., C.P.A. and was a professor of Accounting at Western Michigan University by age 25. He parlayed this early ambition and enthusiasm into a life rich with experience and wonder. Ray’s career included entrepreneurship endeavors with a retail store in Michigan, Controller at a RV manufacturer in Junction City, Kansas, CFO/Controller of the White Mountain Apache Tribe in Whiteriver, AZ, President and Director of Operations at Great Harvest Bread Co. in Dillon, MT, Owner and Operator of the Southern Mill Bread Company of Tampa, FL, Tribal Comptroller of the San Carlos Apache Tribe of San Carlos, AZ, Chief Financial Officer of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Oregon and Finance Director at Klamath Falls Community College. These opportunities enabled Ray and Cindi to pursue their passion of everything outdoors; gardening, motorcycling, hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. Ray road his Harley Davidson everywhere from Key West, Florida to Mt. St. Helens. He fished and hunted from Florida to Alaska and everywhere in between. Ray wrote national elk hunting articles and was featured on the #1 selling elk video. He was a Big Brother for many years with the BBBS program. He even became a professional bowler late in life, was an accomplished chef and loved to paint. Ray retired to Madras, Oregon in 2013 with Cindi, Harry his canine companion and Mittens the cat.

Ray is survived by his wife Cindi, sister Krystal Potter, niece Jade Peterson, nephew Tommy Truax and five great niece’s and nephew’s. A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at a later date. Contributions in Ray’s memory may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters Program.
