Mary died peacefully at the age of 94, surrounded by her family, and her dedicated caretakers Sept. 10, 2019. Mary was born Oct. 14, 1924, to Stewart and Florrie Bidner, in Cuicheon Cover, Beaver Point, B.C., Canada.

Mary and Robert Nevan Blaine Starkel were married June 15, 1947, in Mapleton, Oregon. In 1960, the family moved to Madras for work on the Round Butte Dam project. Mary's favorite activity was caring for her chickens even in her 80's.

Mary is survived by her sons, Robert Jr. (Joan), Larry (Gayle) of Madras; daughter, LaShell of Eugene; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by husband, Robert; son, Terry; her parents and siblings.
