Leona Loretta (Guthmiller) Schmidt 87, died October 29, 2022 at St. Charles Hospital in Bend Oregon. Leona was born March 26, 1935 in Richardton, North Dakota. She was the youngest of 14 children, born to Christ Guthmiller and Elizabeth (Permann) Guthmiller. She married Laurence (Larry) Schmidt in Dickinson, North Dakota on September 27, 1956. They resided in Minnesota and North Dakota before moving to Madras, Oregon in November of 1963. Leona graduated from DHS in 1954 after attending a country school north of Taylor for three years and remaining years in Dickinson schools. She enjoyed various things. Especially crafts, crocheting and knitting in her spare time. She also enjoyed a small garden, canning, cooking, baking and making candy. She took hundreds of entries to the County Fair and won numerous ribbons and special awards. Leona is survived by one son, Keith Schmidt of Madras, and two grandchildren. Lucas Schmidt of Terrebonne, Oregon and Krista Schmidt of Springdale, Oregon. She is also survived by great granddaughter Burklie Schmidt of Cottage Grove, Oregon. And two sisters, Eleanor Hanks, 92 of St. Petersburg, Florida and Elsie Powell 90 of Largo, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry in June of 1998 and her son Duane in October of 1979.
