Obituary

Lavon Aletha Meeker Ridgeway was born 12-21-1919 in Boyd, OR at the Meeker Homestead. She was the 3rd daughter of Harold Earl Meeker and Aletha I. Reed. She had 8 brothers and sisters. She graduated from Redmond High School in 1937. She loved attending her 75th high school class reunion in the year 2012.

She married Verl Alden Ridgeway on September 25th, 1938. He preceded her in death 27 years ago. Their marriage was the first ceremony preformed at the Powell Butte Community Church by Reverend Penny Penhollow. Verl and Lavon had two children, Richard Gene Ridgeway (Debbie) and Karen Larraine Duffy (Bob). They also helped raise many others, including 5 of her sisters and brothers, and a foster daughter. Over the years they took many into their home and hearts.

She had 7 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great Great Grandchildren, many who were adopted of the heart.

She was re-baptized in the Jordan River when she went to the Holy Land in1971.

Verl and Lavon spent many years as camp hosts in Death Valley; they loved to travel, camp and fish.

In the year 2004 she was The Pioneer Queen of Jefferson County.

She spent many hours doing good works; she donated over 500 baby blankets that she quilted for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Doernbecker Children’s Hospital. She loved to work on puzzles, play pinochle, sew, quilt, knit and crochet. She always had something to do that she had made, to pass out to others. If she wasn’t doing these things, she was walking or working in her garden where she raised and canned everything.

She was a mentor to many; she would take you under her wing and teach you about the Lord.
