Obituary

Helen Marjorie Story, of Madras, passed away April 23, 2019, one week shy of her 94th birthday. Helen was born April 30, 1925, in Ubly, Michigan, to Andrew and Cassie Thompson.

She completed nine years of school and went to work at the A&P grocery store in Flushing, Michigan. She worked there until 1946, when she followed the love of her life, Robert L. Story, to Powell Butte, Oregon. She traveled by train, by herself, at the age of 21. They were united in marriage Oct. 26, 1946, in Prineville.

Helen continued her years of employment as a cashier/checker at many different department and grocery stores throughout her working career. She was a beautiful seamstress and loved her vegetable and flower gardens, especially her roses, and was very successful at both.

Helen is survived by sons, Roy (Becky) Story of Weiser, Idaho, and Denny (Patricia) Story of Madras; daughters, Roberta Fox and Pam (Ray)Hamlin of Prineville; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews across the country.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert; sons, Merlin Robert and Robert (Bobby) Watson; three grandsons, Denny Lee, Brian James and Johnathan Lyle; as well as both her parents and all six of her siblings.

Services were held April 30, at the First Baptist Church in Madras.
