Funeral service will be held Thursday June 29, 2023 at 11:00am at the Madras Christian Church 115 SE C St. Madras, Or 97741 Dixie Jane Busch passed away June 10, 2023 with her two children and
beloved dogs at her side.
Dixie was born June 15, 1937 in Portland Oregon, the only child of Art and
Cora Lembach.  After graduating from Washington High School in 1955, she
went on to get her Bachelor's Degree in Geology at Portland State
University, then her Masters degree in Paleontology and Geology from
Oregon State University.
After graduating OSU in 1963, Dixie moved to Suitland, MD to work as an
oceanographer for the US Naval Oceanographic Office in Washington DC.  It
was there that she met her coworker and future husband, Reuben Busch.
They married August 29, 1967, right before Reuben was transferred to San
Diego, CA.  Both children were born in San Diego, then Reuben was
transferred back to the Washington DC office in 1970.  He was then
transferred to Long Beach, MS, in 1976.  In 1981, he retired from Federal
service and the family moved to Madras to be near Dixie's mother, Cora
Lembach.
Raising animals was Dixie's passion.  She also enjoyed rockhounding,
gardening, garage sailing and potlucks.  Dixie loved to volunteer, and was
involved in many different organizations-- Madras Christian Church, Madras
Community Band, High Desert Humane Society,  Jefferson County Historical
Society, NARFE, Jefferson County Senior Center and the Audubon Society.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Busch Smith, son John Busch, and
son in law Alexander Smith.In honor of Dixie's love for animals, the family requests memorial
contributions be made in Dixie's name to Rockn EZ Rescue Ranch, PO Box
938, Madras, OR 97741.
